Características agronômicas e digestibilidade "in situ" da fração volumosa de híbridos de milho para silagem

Agronomic characteristics, stover chemical composition, and dry matter (DM) "in situ" digestibility of corn, 28 hybrids in 1995/96, and 21 in 1996/97, were measured to evaluate the genetic variability and consistance of quality patterns of corn hybrids for silage. Genetic variability was observed for all the analyzed variables. However, there was a great environmental effect over corn hybrid quality variables. Hybrid versus year interaction was significant for the agronomic characteristics as well as for the stover digestibility but the interaction was not significant for the stover ADF content. The occurrence of water stress (1995/96) reduced the total DM production and the percentage of cobs, but improved corn hybrids stover digestibility. This work showed the possibility of utilizing stover DM digestibility for corn hybrids selection, and emphasized the need of performing corn hybrid evaluation trials for various years and places
